Laura
Patton
Children's Choir Coordinator
I am a native of Memphis, Tennessee and earned a Bachelor of Music degree
from the University of Memphis in Piano. I have a varied background in
music, studying everything from piano to organ to trombone, and teaching in
many capacities such as preschool music in a church weekday school setting,
as well as music theory and music appreciation classes to older children.
Currently, I am a Suzuki and traditional piano teacher at Ursuline School
for the Performing Arts where I have taught since 2005. I came to Louisville
for studies at the Southern Baptist Seminary, and plan to graduate this May
with my Master of Divinity degree in Church Music. The program has been a
blessing since I have been able to study theology intensively along with
great music and ministry classes. God has used the experience to grow me in
many ways, both spiritually and personally. When I’m back in Memphis, I love
spending time with my four nieces and nephews (two of each) ranging from 2
years old to college as well as with my parents and friends. In my “off”
time here (I say with a smile), I love to be outdoors taking in Louisville’s
great parks, riding my bike or walking. I enjoy the many arts offerings here
as well as the interesting historical sites. (Shaker Village is a particular
favorite of mine). Kentucky has a lot to offer!
I am so thrilled about this opportunity to work as Children’s Choir
Coordinator here at Christ Church United Methodist and am looking forward to
a great year. I have a special love for children of all ages, and believe it
is a privilege to work with them to grow the Kingdom. Christ demonstrated
the importance of children when He instructed his disciples to “let the
little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of
heaven belongs to such as these” (Matt. 19:14, NIV). The heart of a child is
precious to God, and I look forward to working together with you in
nurturing and training these young ones in God’s love and character to bring
them to Christ.
