Children’s Worship (Kindergarten – Third Grade)

All children in Kindergarten and up attend worship with their families in the Sanctuary. After the offertory, children in Kindergarten through third grade are invited to follow the banner down the center aisle to Room 005 on the lower level of the Children’s Wing.

This worship time is led by Sarah Flannery, Director of Children’s Ministries, and it includes a lesson and activities that are fun and appropriate. Children are encouraged to bring their Bibles to Children’s Worship, and any child who does not have a Bible will be given one so that everyone can participate in looking up the Scripture for the morning.

Sarah designs and customizes the curriculum for this age group, with an intentional focus on the seasons and holidays of the church year, Christ Church focuses such as confirmation and stewardship, and elements of worship such as the Doxology, communion and baptism. From week to week, children may make their own stewardship commitments, play a game that teaches compassion or create a colorful banner to use as a worship tool.

Fourth and fifth graders often ask to attend children’s worship as helpers, and they are welcome to do so. In order to make sure that they experience family worship as well, we ask that helpers attend children’s worship no more than every other week.

Sundays at 9 and 11:15 am

Sunday School (K-3rd grade)

During the school year, Sunday school for Kindergarten through third grade is offered in age-based classes. Each class is led by two teams of teachers who rotate throughout the year, so your child will get to know the same four leaders month in and month out.

Our Kindergarten learners experience the same curriculum that the preschool children use, but on a level that is appropriate for them.

First through fifth graders enjoy the Crossings for Kids curriculum from Logos Productions. The Crossings lessons are divided into eight different themes that are repeated year after year through different stories. This curriculum is outstanding in its ability to draw on children’s multiple intelligences to explore a range of Bible stories on several themes, laying the groundwork for an active life of faith.

Sunday School (4th-5th Grade)

How would it feel for your 4th and 5th graders to pull you out of bed to get to church on Sundays? That excitement is one of the goals behind a special ministry for this age group called Alive!. The focus of Alive! is on making church come alive once again for preteens.

Fourth and fifth graders spend their Sunday school time (10:10-11 am) together in Room 005, with 5th graders taking leadership roles throughout the year. Each week, their time together will be divided into three parts:
  1. Food and fellowship
  2. Focused session
  3. Debriefing
That second part is the heart of their time together, and they will spend that time discovering something new in one of four categories: church, mission, Scripture or community. That means that one week they may do an in-depth Bible study (Scripture), while another week they will learn how the Sunday offering is collected, counted and put into the church budget (church). On a community week, they may play a game or write letters to kids who haven’t attended in a while, and on a mission week they may do a service project for St. MAM or Blessings in a Backpack. I want this group to be engaged in discipleship while forming strong church friendships, and I believe that this new ministry is a start.

How can parents be involved?
  • Sign up to bring snacks a couple times a year. A sign-up sheet is available in Room 005, or you may e-mail Sarah Flannery.
  • Volunteer to assist in the Alive! classroom once every month or two. With this larger class size, we need more parents around to help the kids stay on track. Sign up by e-mailing Sarah Flannery.
