About Us
Christ Church is a 3,100-member United Methodist congregation in the heart of St. Matthews in Louisville, Kentucky. We are a growing community of faith with a clear mission: becoming living proof of God's love, one person at a time. We have challenged ourselves to hold each other accountable to this mission by engaging with each other these four questions:
- Where have you seen God's love at work this week?
- How are you growing in God's love this week?
- Who has God placed in your path that needs to experience God's love this week?
- How have you demonstrated God's love this week?
Worship is central to our lives as Christian people. At Christ Church, our goal in worship is to honor God through prayers, the spoken word, and through music. Our worship is not performance or routine, but an energetic celebration of our love for God. The goal of our music ministry is to enable all persons to experience the presence of God through congregational singing and the inspiration of choral and instrumental music. More than 700 person (from age 3 to adults) participate in one of our many choirs and instrumental groups.
At Christ Church, we believe that Bible study and Christian fellowship are essential to the life and ministry of our entire congregation. Commitment to small groups has allowed Christ Church to retain its warm welcoming and "small church" environment even as membership has grown dramatically. Through Sunday School, Bible Studies, recreation and other activities, persons of all ages are encouraged to grow in their knowledge and understanding of the Christian faith, scripture and what it means to live follow Christ in our lives.
Christ Church has a long history of providing engaging programming for its youngest members. Children and young people are embraced as vital participants in all aspects of our church. With a focus on authentic expressions of faith, small group and Bible study opportunities and year-round activities and mission projects, we strive to help all of our young people experience the kind of life that Jesus talked about.
At Christ Church, we believe that God has called each one of us to serve according to the gifts God has given us. The multi-faceted outreach ministries at Christ Church minister to people locally, nationally and abroad. Members are encouraged to serve as they are able through local service projects, parent and child opportunities, short term mission trips and global expedition trips. Recent trips to the Gulf Coast, Appalachia, Uganda, Central America and Nigeria, have given Christ Church members the opportunity to touch hearts and lives around the world.
